The new mystery for NBC might be the most ridiculous, insane, and laughably bad show of the pilot season, but it will certainly intrigue you to no end.

The mystery behind Manifest just doesn't hook us enough from the start. It's like trying to jump into a world of ghosts and ghouls without introducing the natural, regular world first.

Manifest tries to be a new hope, but it's no more than a Lost for dummies. [Full Review in Spanish]

Overwrought in all the worst ways.
September 25, 2018
As the season progresses, perhaps it will find a way to develop the characters as well as the mysteries surrounding them, but for the time being, a reason to be genuinely intrigued by Manifest has yet to materialize.

[Manifest] rarely takes flight because too many of the characters are so blandly, weepily rendered.
September 23, 2018
The first episode spends most of its time shrinking this expansive sci-fi premise into cheesy family melodrama.
September 24, 2018
Manifest has a frustrating lack of propulsion, a central dullness whose force field is so strong it bends all the interesting parts toward itself.

Intrigued? Hooked? Don't be. It's super dumb.

What if Lost, except generic and forgettable?
September 21, 2018
That's where the show goes from desperate-to-be-inoffensively-vague to unimaginatively wishy-washy. As a viewer who prefers authenticity and specificity, the pilot to Manifest is light on both.

The deep, complicated emotions involved here should be the best way to tell this story and sustain the show - and, in the hands of more thoughtful outlets on cable and streaming services, they would be.

"Manifest" moves fast, but it plays like a ticket to nowhere.

Shows with complex premises need to provide more to be given a comprehensive review. The pilot alone was not enough to make me want to get on board.

Solid supernatural mystery explores family dynamics, loss.

If you're looking for a righteous and medium-cheesy drama, dive right in. It's something of a low-calorie Daredevil serial with no real villains to speak of (yet!), plus a sprinkling of Touched by an Angel morality.

It has a lot to say - and its premise is enough to keep you watching to find out what happens.
September 25, 2018
An exemplary pilot in some ways; the premise of an airplane time-jumping five years is engaging, and the central mystery about what has been done to the passengers is a great hook.

There are more sci-fi, supernatural mysteries here, chiefly trying to figure what links everyone on that plane. It's engrossing enough, with emotional stakes powerful enough.

Schmaltzy and heavy-handed the references may be (828 in all the addresses, for instance), but they also set up a really good mystery. Who or what is causing these events to "work together for good?"
