It's a puzzle of strange pleasures, a nerve-racking way of recalibrating how to look at the screen and the world outside the screen.
On a soul-deep scale, Williams has tapped into a conflict-the human race's apparent insistence on exterminating itself-and channeled it into material cinematic terms that continuously challenge themselves.
Williams's project is far from a political statement, at least in the explicit sense. Instead his vision is grander and all encompassing.
It's hardly a conventional political film, but it is anything but removed from the world we live in. In that, it evokes Véréna Paravel and Lucien Castaing-Taylor's "Leviathan."
3D, once a novelty, has become a boring and overused gimmick: this is a rare chance to appreciate it anew.
An example of 3D at its most inventive, artistic and adventurous, it's an audio-visual assault of the mesmerising type.
The use of depth of field, negative spaces and the free flow of images... create, at times, a sensation of astonishment and optical novelty similar to what Lumiere's first short films provoked in his audience. [Full review in Spanish]
